How to Read an Empty Palace in Zi Wei
An empty palace has none of the fourteen majors. It does not mean the life theme is missing. Tone is borrowed from the opposite palace; supports and transformations stay where they landed.

When you see an empty palace, take the opposite palace's majors for tone, then read supports and transformations in the empty palace itself. Do not write 'empty fate' or 'empty marriage'. If the hour is wrong, the empty seat may be in the wrong room.
Empty is missing majors, not missing life
Fourteen major stars sit in twelve palaces, so some palaces receive none. Those are empty palaces. What is empty is the major star, not the theme.
Empty Marriage is not a sentence of being single. Empty Wealth is not a sentence of poverty. Empty Life is not a missing self. The melody of that theme is read from the opposite palace.
This is not Ba Zi void. Void is a stem-branch decade gap. Empty palace is only a seating result when stars are placed. Do not mix the two vocabularies.
How borrowing works
Opposite pairs: Life–Travel, Marriage–Career, Wealth–Fortune, Children–Property, Siblings–Friends, Parents–Health. For majors, read whoever sits across.
You borrow tone, not the other palace's entire biography. Empty Life with Tai Yang opposite takes Tai Yang's visibility into self-description; Travel's own movement theme is still a separate sentence.
Related palaces still count. An empty palace with a strong related group is often carried by those rooms: empty Life with solid Career and Wealth can still act; the self is just easier to describe through work, money, and the outer stage.
Empty Life Palace, empty Marriage Palace
Empty Life is often written as 'no self'. More often the character is understood through Travel's majors, and the person recognizes themselves in outer roles. If Body Palace has majors, effort has a clearer shape than Life.
Empty Marriage borrows Career. Relationship themes tangle with work and duty: meeting through the job, cooling through overtime, matching by status. That is not 'no marriage'. Fortune and Travel still join the reading.
Empty Children borrows Property: offspring, students, and works often tie to house and family conditions. Empty Wealth borrows Fortune: money-feeling sticks to appetite and inner safety.
Supports and transformations still live here
Only the fourteen majors are missing. Supports, hard stars, and transformations in this palace still belong to this palace. Ji in an empty palace is still this theme's homework; the opposite majors only set the base voice.
Empty Marriage with Lu can still feel resourced or cared for in relationship. Ji still repeats attachment and misunderstanding. Opposite majors color; they do not erase the transformation.
Empty palace plus void-like hard stars can mean the theme does not land by the usual route. Even then it is 'not by the usual route', not 'absent'. Cycles that enter the palace still wake it.
Check the hour before you name it empty
One hour-branch back moves the Life Palace, and empty seats move with it. Calling Life Palace empty on a shaky hour may be reading the wrong room.
Births near 23:00, and true solar time on or off, can both shift palaces. Finish those checks, then talk about emptiness.
After the chart appears, write the empty palace, the opposite majors, and this palace's transformations together. Stopping at the word empty is not yet a reading.
